If you’re someone who likes to stay inside and simply just enjoy a view, this may not be for you. If you’re looking for a little adventure, however, then look no further. Tunisia has you covered.

Bridge Over Water in Dejrba, Tunisia
This northern African country is famous for its potential for adventure. Cave exploring, rock climbing, scuba diving; the list goes on and on. It’s one of those countries that had outdoor enthusiasts scrambling to conquer. So, if you’d like a change of view and a few new fun challenges, I’ll give you a rundown of just a few of the outdoor activities that Tunisia is most known for.
Scuba Diving/Snorkeling

Discovering the Remains of an Old Sunken Boat in El Haouaria, Tunisia, North Africa
Snorkeling and Scuba Diving go hand in hand when it comes to the crystal clear waters off the coast of Tunisia. The reefs are something you can really only behold in person. See varieties of beautiful exotic fish you would find at home, and the stunning landscape of life underwater by Tunisia. While you only need a mask to go snorkeling, if you’re going scuba diving, you’re going to want to bring along an oxygen tank and a professional who knows the waters.
Tunisia has quite a few places that are perfect for diving into, but here are some of the best out there: Cape Mahdia, rocks of ras turgueness in Djerba, the Rock of groupers in Tabarka, and the tip of the island of pigeons in Monastir.
So, if you’re in the mood to see some underwater sights, then snorkeling and scuba diving off the coast of Tunisia should be on the top of your list!
Horseback Riding

Tunisia, riding on the beach
There are two types of people: those who enjoy horseback riding, and those who have never had the pleasure of riding a steed. In Tunisia, you’ll find horseback riding opportunities all around. Some are on the beach, while others tour the very edges of the Sahara. Very rarely do you get to see such amazing views from the back of such a strong and magnificent animal.
If you’re curious about doing some horseback riding, here are some of the locations that offer their services:
- The Sahara
- The Chotts
- The Mountain Oasis
- The Ksours
- The dunes of the Grand Erg Oriental
Some of the most popular tours happen down in the south, where you can view the dunes of the Sahara Desert. Make sure you pack plenty of sunscreen and always be sure to give those horses a few pats on the neck and maybe read a guide on horseback riding. If you own horses of your own, hopefully they won’t get jealous, because when you comes across offered, you may never want to leave the back of your horse.
Mountain Climbing

Mountain climbing is one of those things that may seem daunting, but once you find yourself scaling a sheer cliff and destroying each and every landmark, you’ll be having the time of your life. The work is very intense, yet very rewarding, and I encourage anyone to overcome their fear of heights to give something like mountain climbing a try.
Tunisia is very well known for its rocky terrain, making it a perfect destination for climbers looking for a challenge. If you’re looking for specific places that will give you the adventure of a lifetime, I highly suggest Djebel Zaghouan and Djebel Ressas, both mountains that can give any climber a run for their money.
Also, it’s rock climbing in Africa, so pack plenty of sunscreen! Here are some examples from TripAdvisor.
Caving

Ain Dhab Cave in Siliana, Tunisia
Hope you aren’t scared of the dark! While not as popular as most other activities for obvious reasons, there are some dedicated spelunkers who map each cave, crevice, and chasm for you to have a safe, yet thrilling adventure. If you’re interested, there are quite a few locations you can check out. Here are some of the most popular:
- The cave of Ain Dhab
- Ichkuel
- Damous El Karma
- Nefza
- Joumine
- The mine of Hammam Zriba
If you’re interested in caving, make sure that you have a professional with you and some extra batteries for your flashlight so you can have an exhilarating (and safe) adventure deep under Tunisia.
Kayaking

Are you ready to tread the waters? Kayaking is one of the best ways to appreciate the best Tunisia has to offer at a slow and rewarding pace. Glide the waters and watch the beauty of the country pass you by. It’s a relaxing activity, and one that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike. Northern Tunisia is the best place to go for the sport, in our opinion. It’s one of the best ways to do some sight-seeing but also being able to relax at the same time, since kayaking is a relatively low-impact sport. Just remember to bring a life jacket!
Pesca Tourism

Tunisia, Cap Bon, Hammamet, waterfront, Kasbah Fort and fishing boats
You may be wondering: what’s pesca tourism? It’s not something you hear about a lot, but in essence, it’s the combination of fishing and sightseeing. That’s right! We’re going fishing! But not the kind you may be thinking of. This involves nets and reels and large hauls.
You’ll spend a few hours with professional fishermen, being able to watch and appreciate not only the work they do, but how they act in the preservation of marine animals. Many of these tour boats allow you to get involved in the fishing, and more often than not, you’re served some of the freshly caught fish right on board!
Bungee Jumping

Now we’re getting into some of the most thrilling activities Tunisia has to offer. Bungee jumping is one of those things that very few have the bravery to dive into, but the experience is one that can’t be matched. While activities like paragliding or zip-lining can be an adrenaline rush, to actually freefall is an experience unlike any other.
The experience is both thrilling, but safe. You’re guaranteed to have an expert by your side, so you don’t have to worry about being hurt.
If you’re looking to take the leap, you should head on over to Djebel Zaghouan, Djebel Chaanbi, or Cap Angela.
Also, as a side note, you must be between 45 kg and 100 kg to be able to participate in this activity. If you meet that requirement, you’re all good to dive right in — and come back up, of course.
Zip-Lining

If you’re looking for something that’s both thrilling and affordable, look no further than some good old fashioned zip-lining. It’s an extremely safe activity that’s usually done between the peaks of two mountains. It’s going to be high, fast, fun, and leave you feeling as free as a bird. You’re going to be alongside professionals, so don’t worry if you’re scared of heights or have any reservations about the distance. The experience is well worth it.
If you’re looking for where to attach your line, there’s a variety of places ready to take you. Although it’s most popular on Djebel Zaghouan in Sidi Medien, you can also find it available in Siliana, Tozeur, and Testour. It’s suitable for everyone, so don’t be afraid to contact a zip-lining club to find out more.
Also! Pro tip: when you’re going down the line, don’t look at where you’re going. Instead, look out at the mesmerizing plains of Tunisia. You’ll be able to get a view most don’t have the honor of seeing in their entire lives. It’s going to be a memory you won’t soon forget.
Cycling

A cyclist pedals past the El Jem Archeological Museum in Tunisia.
If you’re comfortable on a bike, you may be interested in some cycle tourism. Riding through the beautiful lands of Tunisia is something you shouldn’t pass up on. You’ll be in a group with other cyclists taking in the lands as they pass you by. It will be a lot of touring with a guide, with a little less of the chatting. Instead, the view will speak for the guide, as Tunisia is one of those countries that are of the “show, don’t tell” variety; you won’t get an experience like this riding through your neighborhood
If you’re interested, you can contact the cycling club in Sousse, where you can find the time, place, and where to rent a bike. Just make sure you have the appropriate attire and plenty of water, because you’re going to be in for a long and memorable ride!
Paragliding

Make sure you don’t leave your guts at home, because you’re going to need them if you want to try your hand at paragliding. It’s easy to do, but terrifying during your first time. However, no other activity gives you that true experience of flying through the air quite like paragliding. It’s as freeing as it is adrenaline-pumping.
You’re going to be with trained professionals, so don’t worry if this is your first go around. Just make sure you’re ready to experience what pure freedom feels like.
Paragliding is most popular around beaches. Cap Angela Raf Raf in Bizerte is where you’re going to find a good place to paraglide on land. However, if you’re looking to ride the winds above the waves, you’re going to want to be in either Zaghouan or Tozeur.
